The Gold Coast Aquatic Centre is the venue for the swimming and diving competition for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. A significant upgrade to the Centre was necessary to satisfy international competition requirements.

Redevelopment of the aquatic centre is one of the most significant Commonwealth Games legacy projects and provides a world class venue for the Gold Coast. The project was brought forward to take advantage of the opportunity to host the 2014 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships and other major national and international competitions ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The upgrade includes a new 10-lane 50 metre competition pool, new learn-to-swim pool, elevated spectator concourse/viewing terrace, new changing rooms, gym and toilet facilities, community meeting rooms, event facilities, permanent seating for approximately 1200 people, and refurbishment of the existing eight-lane 50 metre pool and dive pool.
