INTERNATIONAL architect Paul McMillan has sold his Paradise Waters mansion for $6.6 million – the highest price for a house in Surfers Paradise for more than a year.

The luxurious three-storey home at 117 Commodore Drive sold earlier this week in a deal negotiated by McGrath Estate Agents’ James Ledgerwood and John Natoli in conjunction with Roland Evans of Canford Property Group.

Mr McMillan and his wife Aliya purchased the 936sqm block in 1999 for $960,000 before designing and building their dream seven-bedder.

Despite being listed for $7.5 million last year, Mr Ledgerwood said the sale was a “very strong” result.

“In terms of all-time sales in Paradise Waters, it is up there with some of the highest sales that have ever been achieved,” he said.

“It solidifies a pretty strong month for the prestige market on the Coast, along with the $7 million sale at Soul (also negotiated by Mr Ledgerwood and Mr Natoli).”

Mr Ledgerwood, who described the mansion as “one of his favourite homes” on the Coast, said no details could be released about the buyer due to a confidentiality clause.

“We received some really good quality interest locally, interstate and overseas throughout the campaign.

“We are starting to consistently see across the larger properties an increase in overseas and interstate inquiries with people who are wanting to relocate to the Gold Coast for the lifestyle and who are very positive about the future of the Gold Coast economy.”

The sale is the highest for a house in Surfers Paradise since an $8.7 million deal at 60 Admiralty Drive – also in Paradise Waters – on March 14 last year.
